The Good, the Bad and the downright Ugly...

Happy Monday morning!  Since it's time to go back to work after a beautiful long weekend, I'm trying to put on my best happy face and make it a good day. Life is just a bowl of cherries, right?

I can feel the stress roll off my shoulders and my spirit lighten the moment we cross the county line and enter Door County, the Midwest's "Cape Cod."  The weather was perfect and we had a great time, which I'll share in bits and pieces with you this week.  I thought I'd start with some of the GOOD from this weekend:

like perfect weather---
a nice campsite for our great new tent:

Smooth seas meant smooth sailing:
No, we aren't sailors but we love to sit at the Sister Bay harbor and watch the boats go by!
With just a little of this thrown in for fun:
Sorry, but I just couldn't resist the pun!
One of the nice things about camping in Peninsula State Park is the fact that they have pretty decent showers for a campground.  And when you are "tenting" it for four days, hot showers make everything a little better.  So I was quite happy to discover we were just a short stroll down the road from nice restrooms and showers:

But, as my title suggested, along with the good came the (drumroll please) BAD:
This sign went up one hour after we arrived at the campground.  No bathrooms, no sinks for brushing your teeth or washing your face, and no hot showers!!  Instead, we had the UGLY:
Oh my.  It didn't even have hand sanitizers--thank heavens for Wet Wipes!  Everything was fixed eventually, but we spent two of our 3.5 days with this contraption.  It gave me a whole new appreciation of my little but perfectly functional bathroom at home!

As always, there was more to see and do than we could fit into even a longer weekend, but we always manage to squeeze in cherry pie and a trip to Wilson's for ice cream cones.  I threw caution to the winds and instead of my traditional strawberry I chose Mackinac Island fudge (vanilla ice cream with swirls and ripples of chocolate fudge), and I was not disappointed.  And this, my friends, was ONE dip!!

And in honor of Wilson's, the wonderful old fashioned store in the village of Ephraim (population 288, and 200 of them at any given time are inside Wilson's lined up for a delicious cone...) here is a "delicious" little poem by Shel Silverstein.  I've decided Mondays aren't made for serious poetry--it's hard enough to just get out of bed and get going without having to think too hard!
Have a joyful, ice-cream kind of day!

Eighteen Flavors
By Shel Silverstein

Eighteen luscious, scrumptious flavors
Chocolate, lime and cherry,
Coffee, pumpkin, fudge banana
Caramel cream and boysenberry.
Rocky road and toasted almond,
Butterscotch, vanilla dip,
Butter brickle, apple ripple,
Coconut and mocha chip,
Brandy peach and lemon custard,
Each scoop lovely, smooth and round,
Tallest ice cream cone in town,
Lying there (sniff) on the ground

  1. Ugh, bathrooms like that sure are stinky. Too bad they don't come with sawdust to keep the smell down. Glad the rest of your trip went well. The icecream looks delicious!
